Platted in 1825 as the seat of Early County, Blakely is a close-knit community in southwest Georgia. City Hall, built in 1939 on Court Square, has served residents for generations.

How do I pay my utility bill?
Online through Xpress Bill Pay, at the drive-thru window or the drop box in the drive-thru at City Hall, by mail to P.O. Box 350, Blakely, GA 39823, or in person at 82 Court Square. To set up online payments you need your account number and the last name on the account. Questions: call 229-723-3677 or email billing@cityofblakely.org.
How do I start electric, gas, water or sewer service?
Fill out the Residential Application Package and bring it to Utility Billing at City Hall with a photo ID and proof of residence, such as a lease or purchase agreement. A credit check is run while you wait and sets your deposit. Businesses use the commercial application instead.
When does the City Council meet, and how do I speak at a meeting?
The Mayor and Council meet the first Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall, 82 Court Square. Meetings are open to everyone. To be placed on the agenda, submit a Speaker Appearance Form by noon on the Wednesday before the meeting. Agendas and minutes are posted online.
When is my garbage picked up?
Residential polycarts and yard trimmings are collected weekly. The pickup schedule is on the Sanitation department page. A holiday that falls on a weekday delays pickup by the number of days City Hall is closed. Large furniture, appliances and large yard debris go to the transfer station at 43 Malone Road. Recycling bins are at Early County Middle School on Columbia Street and the Piggly Wiggly lot on North Main Street.
Where do I take large items, and when is the landfill open?
The transfer station and compactor are at 43 Malone Road. The transfer station is open Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The compactor is open Monday to Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to dusk and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to dusk. Stop at the scale house first. Tires are accepted for a fee. Call 229-723-3738 with questions.
How do I get a building permit or a business license?
The Building Official handles building permits, inspections and business licensing from the Technology Building behind City Hall. Call 229-723-3414. Applications are on the Forms and Documents page and can be returned to City Hall.
How do I report a pothole, water leak or power outage?
During business hours, call City Hall at 229-723-3677. After hours, call the Fire Department at 229-723-5150 and they will dispatch the on-call crew. For fire, medical or life-threatening emergencies, call 911.
How do I apply for a job with the City?
Print the employment application, fill it out completely, and email it to applicant@cityofblakely.org or deliver it to City Hall at 82 Court Square. Open positions are posted under News and Notices.
